Maryland Extreme

Gearing Up for MDX 2010

Coach Tilden 10/01/2010

Defense:

Rest” 212 Zone Def

No Rest” 212 Half Court Zone Press

Match-Up” Man-to-Man Def

Tip-Off” vs Zone

Offense:

32” vs Man/Zone

Enter” vs Zone/Man

FIRE” vs Zone

Offensive tactics and focus:

Escape Dribble” after receiving the ball and a hard pump fake

Reading the Defense” – Every move made should be made to counter what the defense is doing

Pick Your Man” – Side, Behind, & Front (with duck in)

The #3 (SF) will always inbound the ball (This simplifies inbounding)

Push” the Ball constantly in transitions (Transition Offense)

Defense Tactics:

Make Man Miss Zone” – We make a basket we fall back to man. We miss a basket we fall back to zone. This is Silent defense calling.

Now” - after any of the above means to “Match-up”. This helps hide our defensive play calling. This is a play call misdirection (ie: “Zone-up Now” or “Push Up Now” means to play man (match-up) defense.

Man Check” means to call out who you’re guarding. (at tip-off, subs, t.o.’s)

Talk About It” – There should be constant communications by every player

Eye Reading” – You can get a lot of steals if you read the ball handler’s eyes

Skill Sets Needed:

1 – Leadership, Ball Handler, Passer, and Penetrator

2 – Shooter, Ball Handler, Passer

3 – Passer, Penetrator, Decent ball handling

4 – Rebound, Decent Post Moves, Decent Midrange Shooter, Passer

5 – Passer, Post Moves, Make Free Throws, Rebound

Everyone needs to be Coachable, be able to Execute ALL the plays, make a strong Layup be able to Move without the ball, See the Court with the ball, Pass the ball, know how to protect the ball in a Strong triple threat position.
